Full Description
A series of undated boundary and drainage ditches were encountered during a programme of trial trenching in March-April 2018. The ditches ran along several different alignments, suggesting they were not all contemporary and likely represented several phases of post-Roman agricultural use of the site. No dateable finds were recovered from any of the features. {1}{2}
Three further undated ditches were encountered during a subsequent archaeological evaluation in July-September 2018. These likely formed part of a post-Roman field system, though, again, no dateable finds were recovered. {3}{4}
It is possible that some of these ditches are of Roman date, forming part of the system of paddocks observed in the east of this area during excavation in 2018 (see ELI14792 and MLI23596).
