Full Description
Earthworks of medieval lynchets, to the south-west of Stoke Grange Farm, Stoke Rochford. The lynchets are on a steep east-facing slope, overlooking the River Witham, and are visible as at least five parallel terraces with average dimensions of 240m by 30m. The lynchets are staggered along the slope and are oriented at slight variance with the contours of the slope. Identified on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1}
Traces of the medieval lynchets and associated ridge and furrow were identified in September 2020, during geophysical survey of land to the west of Grange Farm. The remains were noted as linear magnetic anomalies aligned on a roughly north to south axis. {2}
