Full Description

A group of five ditches of Early Roman date were recorded on land to the south of Clay Lake Bank, Spalding during a programme of trial trenching in March-April 2018. A small assemblage of pottery dated to ~140-200 AD was recovered. Environmental samples revealed that crop processing and the burning of peat for fuel were taking place nearby. Several fragments of residual probably Early-Middle Iron Age briquetage were also recovered from the fills of these features (see MLI128034). {1}{2}
