A magnetometry survey was conducted on land to the south of 101 Witham Road, Woodhall Spa, to inform a proposed residential development. A grouping of strong magnetic anomalies in the north of the site indicated the potential for archaeology related to pottery production. An extensive zone of natural variation in the west of the site was interpreted as possible river terrace sand and gravels. {1} Subsequent trial trenching (see ELI14132) found no explanation for the anomalies in the north of the survey area, although modern ceramic drains were encountered across the site and may have provided these readings.
