Description
A fluxgate gradiometer survey was conducted on land at Deep Lane, West of Toby House, Hagworthingham to inform the propsed construction of a residential property. Two possible parallel ditches were identified in the southwest corner of the site, and a number of other small isolated anomalies that may represent pits were noted across the site. It was suggested that the buildings seen on the 1795 estate map of the site may have been mud and stud in construction, as the survey encountered no evidence of brick or tile debris. {1}
Limited subsequent trial trenching and excavation (see ELI14034 and ELI14035) confirmed the presence of archaeology on the site, with one of the concentrations of possible pit features revealed to be a concentration of post holes, pits, and building footings.
