A fluxgate gradiometer survey was conducted to inform proposed residential development on land at Middlefield Lane, Gainsborough. Extensive magnetic disturbance thought to have been caused by modern disturbance and late post-medieval farming activity was recorded across the site but no anomalies thought to relate to significant archaeological activity were identified. {1} Subsequent trial trenching on the site confirmed most of the recorded magnetic anomalies as being either modern disturbance or the result of late post-medieval farming activity (see ELI13579). No archaeologically significant features, deposits or finds were encountered.
