Full Description

A large, sub-circular enclosure of possible prehistoric date, to the south-east of Somerby Low Farm, Somerby. Visible as cropmarks and soilmarks on Google Earth aerial imagery layer dating to 2008, and as a shallow earthwork on recent Environment Agency LiDAR survey data. The enclosure is bisected by the local authority boundary between Somerby (West Lindsey, Lincolnshire) and Cadney (North Lincolnshire, where the feature is recorded in the North Lincolnshire HER as record MLS22778). The enclosure measures about 190m by 175m across and no internal features are visible. On the eastern (Lincolnshire) side the enclosure ditch is visible as a broad, diffuse soilmark up to 24m wide. On the western (North Lincolnshire) side the ditch is not visible on the aerial photography, but a semi-circular patch of greener vegetation marks the extent of the enclosure. A young woodland plantation is currently (2013) growing on this part of the monument. {1}{2}
