A drainage pumping station built in about 1850, which was constructed of red brick and has slate and corrugated iron roofs with overhanging eaves. The building is single-storey, and has a cross-shaped plan form with raller engine house. The main front has the projecting engine house gable with large round-headed window with glazing bars, flanked either side by similar smaller windows also with glazing bars, beyond to the left a pair of large plank doors. The rear front has a further single round headed window to the projecting engine house. The original steam engine was replaced by a Petter 2-stroke ex-marine diesel engine powering a 27" pump in 1945. This was later replaced by an electric pumping station on the Great Eau closer to the sea. {3} Gayton Engine Pumping House was accidentally listed twice. The duplicate listing was revoked in 2011, but the structure remains listed under NHLE entry 1063090. {4}
