Full Description

A Benedictine cell under a prior was founded at Wilsford c.1135-54. It was dependent on Bec-Hellouin, and was granted to Bourne Abbey in 1401. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5} The cell was founded by Hugh de Evermue or Wake and at the Dissolution its lands were granted to Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. {3}{4} The cell is thought to have been located in Hanbeck (PRN 62736). {4} A large ruined dovecote (PRN 65227) near Hanbeck Farm was thought locally to be monastic (presumably associated with this cell) but no evidence to support this was discovered. {1}{2}
