Full Description

The northernmost of two probable prehistoric or Roman pit alignments, on land to the north of Beck Plantation, South Rauceby. Visible as cropmarks on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. The cropmarks show a linear arrangement of pit features, largely following a straight course from south-west to north-east, though with two short perpendicular sections in the middle. This alignment seems to converge at its north-eastern end with another pit alignment located a short distance to the south (see MLI84431). {1}{2}{3} A further c.275m of cropmarks not previously identified by the NMP are visible on Google Earth satellite imagery from December 2007, at the southwestern end of the alignment. A possible boundary ditch (see MLI128000) runs perpendicular to the point at which the pits end. {4}
