Full Description
Longhills Hall is a mid 18th century country house, thought to have been significant altered by George Basevi from 1836 to 1838. It is constructed of coursed and rendered rubble, with ashlar dressings, and features a slate hipped roof with various stone chimney stacks. The principal, north elevation is of 5 bays, with the central projecting bay topped with pediment holding the main double door entrance. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate entry in the National Heritage List for England. {1}{2}{3}
The house was the home of several generations of the Curtois family, several of whom served as Rector of Branston parish. Rev Peregrine Curtois is believed to have been the person who financed the rebuilding or alterations at Longhills between 1836 and 1838. His son, Rev Atwill Curtois, succeeded as Rector at Branston, and became the owner of Longhills in 1847, following the death of Peregrine. White states that the current Longhills house was built on the site of an 'ancient house', suggesting an earlier, possibly late medieval structure may have formerly occupied this location. {4}
