The mill is mentioned in charters of about 1200, where Abbot Richard of the Augustinian canons of Grimsby (Wellow Abbey) granted land they held at Manby to Walter, son of Alan de Berc. The grant comprised several parcels of land, including a toft with a windmill in Manby. The exact location of this former mill is unknown. {1}
