East of the village two pairs of east to west aligned ditches were found. The distance between the two pairs is 400 feet and the paired ditches themselves are 50 feet apart. These ditches were observed on the field surface and a considerable quantity of grey ware was found with a little Samian and colour-coated wares. {1}{2} Also Roman coarse pottery and a loomweight were found south of the site. {3} Also, coins of the Roman Emperors Constantine I (the Great) and Constantine II dating between about AD306 to AD361 were found. {4} During an evaluation and extended watching brief on land to the north-west of this site (TF 0350 7225) a background scatter of 23 Roman pottery sherds were recovered from the trial trenches and a further 12 sherds from the watching brief. According to the excavation report, this small quantity of Roman material may have been derived from this Roman site. This pottery was dated to the later first to third centuries. See PRN 55198. {5}{6}{7}{8} Fragments of box-flue tile and mosaic tesserae were reportedly found in this area in 2018 by local resident. {9}
