Full Description

The church at Cammeringham was granted to the Premonstratensian Abbey of L’Essay (Coutances) before 1126, but after a dispute was transferred to the Premonstratensian Abbey of Blanchelande (Normandy) in 1192, when the priory was likely founded. A prior is documented in the late 13th or 14th century. In 1376 only a prior and a canon were resident. The priory was sold to the Cistercians of Hulton Abbey, Staffordshire in 1396, and likely continued in use as a grange, until the Dissolution. The exact former site is uncertain, although medieval masonry found in this area (SK 947 823) is thought to perhaps have belonged to a House of Canons Regular. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
