Full Description
While Stain does not appear to have its own entry in Domesday, there are cropmarks recorded in the NMP which are suggestive of settlement. The did once had its own church (MLI42668) possibly dating to the 11th century but the area is better characterised as a farmstead in the present day. The village is traditionally said to have been destroyed by Cromwell's men although to date no archaeological evidence for this destruction has been recorded. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}.
