Full Description

A small Benedictine priory, dependent on St Calais, was founded at Covenham by King William I in about 1082 and likely had no more than one or two monks. In 1303 the site was sold to Kirkstead Abbey, where is likely continued in use as a grange until the Dissolution. The modern farm of Covenham Grange is at TF 3533 9569 (see MLI117549); it may mark the spot of the former priory, although no further information could be obtained locally, and the exact location of the priory remains uncertain. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
