Full Description

Roughton Hall is Georgian in style {1}, and is a Grade II* house which dates from the mid 18th century. The frontage is constructed in red brick in a Flemish bond, and has painted brick and ashlar dressings, a slate roof with raised stone coped gables and two gable stacks. The house has a T-plan. {6} The hall is recorded on the first and second edition Ordnance Survey maps at Roughton Hall, Roughton. {4}{5} The farmhouse is attached to a range of working buildings. Located within a Church and/or Manor farm group. {7} A building survey conducted in 2022 focused on the areas of the building subject to change or demolition found that while the façade facing the public on the west elevation is Flemish bond, the remainder of the property is in English bond, with variation and random coursing noted where the pitch of the roof changes. The boiler house was constructed of 18th century brick, and later raised with 19th century brick. It is possible the boiler house was used to house pigs. A possible lean-to extension built of 19th century brick in English bond was being used as a pantry at the time of survey, and has an original window along with a more modern window. {8}{9}
