Full Description
Site of the short-lived house of the Friars of the Sack in Stamford. The house must have been formed at some point between 1257, when the order was introduced into England, and 1274, when the order was suppressed. Whilst new members could not be admitted after that date, four friars were reported as still being in residence in the house in 1300. The house likely came to an end in 1317, with the rest of the order. The site was subsequently occupied by the Austin Friars, with the establishment of their house in 1341 (see MLI30616). {1}{2}{3}
