Full Description

Trial trenching excavations in 2024 recorded two sections of what was believed to be the same medieval ditch, dated through the presence of medieval pottery c.13th century within the fill, along with a pit of the same date. A fragment of a bone flute or whistle was also recovered along with a mixed assemblage of animal bones. A layer of made ground and levelling was recorded with a later ditch also truncating the remains. {1}{2} Ordnance Survey mapping dating to the 19th century shows an earthwork of some kind on the site {3}, although it is unclear whether it relates to the ditch.
