Full Description

A possible Medieval hearth was identified within a buried ploughsoil of Medieval or post-Medieval date on land at Bourne Grammar School, Bourne, during a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording of groundworks for a new teaching block in 2012-2013. The 'hearth' comprised a layer of burnt clay ~0.11m deep, suggesting burning at a very high temperature (such as within a kiln) or the prolonged use of a fire or hearth. The ploughsoil had been identified as Medieval or post-Medieval during previous investigations nearby (see ELI1684 and ELI5979). {1}{2}
