Full Description

A barn forming the surviving working part of the original late 18th - early 19th century Westmere Farm, Sutton Bridge. The barn building comprises an east-west aligned threshing barn with large bay doors on the north and south elevations, and an adjoining cartshed to the west, with a hayloft or granary above. Historic maps suggest that various other farm buildings were attached to the threshing barn in the 19th century to form an E-shape complex with farmyards between the ranges of buildings, though only the north range survives. The barn is of red brick construction, with a corrugated asbestos roof. Wall scars and holes for former joists provide physical evidence of the now-demolished ranges. {1}{2}
