Former school and schoolmaster’s house, converted for residential use. An irregular L-shape plan red brick building in English Garden Wall Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of slate. The roof of the former schoolmaster’s house is half hipped, and appears to be a modern replacement. Two buttresses on the eastern elevation of the south range. Small turret over entranceway with steeply sloped slate roof, crosslet embrasures, and lancet window. The southern gable has a large pointed arch window, other windows are 2 over 2 awning windows. {1} White’s 1856 Trade Directory states that the school was built as a Wesleyan school in that year, with help from a government grant. The school was taken over by the Tetney Board School in 1873. It became Tetney Council School in 1903, and before 1999 it was called Tetney County Primary School. {2}{3} The school and schoolmaster’s house are shown on the 1887, 1906 and 1951 OS maps in the same plan form, and are labelled as a school on all three. The large modern extension to the rear of the property is a late 20th century or early 21st century addition. {4}{5}{6}
