Description
A geophysical survey was conducted on land at Canwick Hill, Lincoln, to inform the proposed construction of a memorial to RAF Bomber Command. A series of linear and curvilinear anomalies were encountered, which were tentatively interpreted as relating to modern allotment cultivation. {1}{2}
Subsequent trial trenching on the site (see ELI14733) revealed a possible Roman settlement comprising several demolition spreads, possible wall foundations and floor surfaces, and two hearths, with two inhumations and an infilled limestone quarry also encountered.
