Description

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during the groundworks for a new outbuilding, drainage works and pathways in the graveyard of St John the Baptist Church, Great Carlton. A quantity of disarticulated human bone was recovered from the graveyard soil and was left on site to be reinterred. The foundations of the 15th century west tower were exposed and recorded. No other archaeologically significant features, deposits or finds were encountered. The groundworks for the new pathways and excavation of foundations and services for the outbuilding were not monitored, as the contractor was not notified of their undertaking. {1}{2}
