Description

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted at Crowland Abbey during trenching for the installation of floodlighting. A number of rubble deposits were encountered, along with a group of disarticulated human bones interpreted as redeposited charnel. Immediately to the east of the abbey ruins, a robbed out wall foundation was identified. A single sherd of a mid 12th to mid 13th century jug was recovered from a trench to the west of the abbey. Post-Medieval and modern foundation deposits for former paths were also noted. {1}{2}
