Description

Four trial trenches were excavated on land at Littlebourne Lane, Marton, to inform any future development of the site. Numerous features of Roman date was encountered in all four trenches, from which finds including significant quantities of pottery and the upper half of a beehive quern were recovered. All of the features encountered were sealed by a number of silty flood deposits consonant with seasonal flood events. {1} This evaluation was followed by a further programme of trenching in 2022 (see ELI14117) immediately to the north.
