Description
A magnetometry survey was conducted on land at Crease Drove, Crowland, to inform the proposed residential development of the site. Only one anomaly thought to represent an archaeological feature was encountered: a 'horseshoe' shaped linear interpreted as a possible ring ditch. A large area of dipolar response at the eastern edge of the site was thought to represent the demolition material from buildings depicted on the 1952 Ordnance Survey map. {1}{2}
Subsequent archaeological evaluation (see ELI14093) revealed that the possible ring ditch was actually an infilled natural hollow. Two ditches were also encountered, one of likely pre-Iron Age date and one Iron Age or later, as was a single undated pit. A number of modern and geological features were also noted.
