Description
A magnetometry survey was conducted on 34ha of land at Manor Farm, Irby in the Marsh, to inform the proposed construction of a solar farm. A number of anomalies representing possible pre-modern ditches and pits were identified across the site, including a dense cluster of pits in the northeastern corner of the site. A dense zone of strong magnetic response in the centre of the site may represent a former structure. Anomalies corresponding to field boundaries depicted on historic mapping were also noted. {1}
A subsequent programme of trial trenching did not confirm the presence of any of the possible features noted in this survey, and four archaeological features that were noted in the evaluation were not identified by the geophysics.
