Description

Seven trial trenches were excavated to inform the proposed construction of a petrol station at land off Peterborough Road, Market Deeping. A single east-west aligned Post-Medieval gully was discovered to the west of the site from which one piece of clay tobacco pipe was recovered, but no archaeologically significant features, deposits or finds were encountered. {1}{2} A previous geophysical survey on the site (see ELI13980) revealed a number of possible linear features. All of these were revealed to be caused by modern agricultural trends, with the exception of one potential rectangular enclosure, which was not identified during the trenching.
