Description

A fluxgate gradiometer survey was conducted to inform a proposed extension to Copper Hill Quarry, Ancaster. A number of magnetic anomalies were recorded in the south-eastern corner of the site, possibly representing the remains of former ditches and pits, associated with the construction of the adjacent Ermine Street, or perhaps being the remains of medieval to post-medieval quarrying. {1} Subsequent trial trenching on the site resolved all of the recorded magnetic anomalies as being either modern disturbance or of natural geological origin, and no archaeological features were encountered (see ELI12642).
