Report on a programme of archaeomagnetic dating, conducted during the excavation of a fired clay hearth at Cowbit. The surface was thought to have been associated with an Iron Age salt producing site. Samples taken from the hearth bottom confirmed that that it had been disturbed by plough damage since its last firing, and no valid dating could therefore be obtained via this method.
