Full Description

Mid 18th century cottage built of red brick. Feaures a pantile roof with high coped and tumbled gables, dentillated eaves and a single, central ridge stack. Single storey and garret, with a three-bay front central lobby entrance doorway with partially glazed plank door. Doorway flanked by single glazing bar sashes. All the openings with segmental heads. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate entry in the National Heritage List for England. {1}{2} Cosy Cottage had been substantially refurbished in the 19th century and again in the late 20th century, with the walls being rebuilt and the roof structure replaced. The house did not retain a significant proportion of its original fabric and detail, and was consequently removed from the National Heritage List for England in 2016. External alterations included the addition of porches, the insertion of modern sash windows and the replacement of the roof and chimney. The original fireplaces no longer survive in their original form. There is much about this building which is of local historical significance, however, in particular its external appearance, which remains that of a simple 18th century cottage with its lobby entrance plan-form, as well as some surviving joists, doors and staircase. It is also of considerable local interest as probably the oldest dwelling in the settlement, and for the place it occupies within the historic landscape. {3}{4}
