Full Description
The former vicarage in Saxilby was constructed in the 1840s. It was likely constructed of brick, now largely obscured with a white render, and features a hipped roof. The original two-storey structure had two wings added to it at some point between 1971 and 2000, likely when the building was converted to use as a care home. The extensions are between one and one-and-a-half storeys high and are L-shaped, forming a partially enclosed front courtyard. The building no longer functions as a care home, having closed very recently (2022). {1}{2}{3}
A historic building survey undertaken prior to the proposed demolition of the Old Rectory in September 2023 established that the west wing was built in c.1987, possibly using the fabric of a former stable/garage outbuilding in its construction, although modern features have made confirmation of extant original fabric impossible. The east wing was built in c.1990, at the same time as a large conservatory extension to the south (garden) elevation. {4}{5}
