Full Description

A memorial to the crew of Avro Lancaster PB476 stands in this location, to the west of Ulceby Cross. Dedicated in March 1995, the memorial honours the 7 crew members of Avro Lancaster PB476, that died when the aircraft was shot down and crashed in this area during the Second World War (see MLI125555). The memorial takes the form of a small granite stone of remembrance, with the badge of 12 squadron carved at the top. The memorial is inscribed with the names of the crew members who died, and the dedication 'In the early hours of March 4th, 1945, Lancaster PB476 (PH - Y) of No. 12 Squardon, RAF Wickenby, crashed near this spot, the victim of a Luftwaffe intruder. This memorial is placed here, on the 50th anniversary of the crash, to commemorate the crew members who died.' {1}{2}
